Christmas in July: Why We Love Hosting as DINKs
Last night, we hosted a Christmas in July party, and let me tell you—it was exactly the kind of fun we needed in the middle of summer. Our apartment lit up with twinkle lights, cold Christmas punch was flowing, beer pong and flip cup got competitive, darts were flying (mostly safely), and laughter spilled out onto into the stairwell all night long.
It was one of those nights that reminds us why we love this life we’ve chosen. The DINK (Dual Income, No Kids) life isn’t just about the freedom—it’s about the intentionality. About creating space for joy, spontaneity, community, and yes… throwing parties just because we can.
There were no naptimes to work around, no babysitters to book, no sticky little hands reaching for breakable ornaments. And while we absolutely adore the children in our lives (and genuinely love being the fun aunt/uncle/friend), there’s something beautiful about leaning into a lifestyle that fits us. A lifestyle where our home is set up for beer pong and charcuterie boards instead of baby monitors and bedtime routines.
The best part? We got to be fully present with our friends and family. No interruptions, no kid meltdowns, just adults being goofy and festive and probably taking the Christmas-in-July theme a little too seriously—and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
Being a DINK doesn’t mean we don’t love kids. It just means we’re building a different kind of joy. One that includes late-night games, themed parties, slow mornings after, and traditions we get to create from scratch.
Last night was a little messy, a little loud, and a whole lot of magic.
And yes—we’re already planning the next one.
